Less than a year after TripAdvisor acquired travel-recommendation site Wanderfly, news has emerged that Wanderfly will be closing for good shortly.

In an announcement sent to TNW, Wanderfly says that the site will go offline “in about a week”, which means that your account, profile and content won’t be available afterwards.

“Going forward, we hope you will continue to find and share travel recommendations at TripAdvisor,” the statement says. “Friends, family, team members, partners, investors, advisors and, of course, all of you fans – thank you for your endless support. What an amazing trip we’ve been on together.”

Wanderfly was originally launched as a traditional travel recommendation search engine back in 2010, but relaunched its service with a Pinterest-like look and feel in March last year.

The original announcement for the acquisition in October last year was remarkably brief, and financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Though the travel giant has made a number of acquisitions over the years, the Wanderfly deal represented its first one of 2012.

It’s not entirely clear yet what will happen to the team behind Wanderfly, or the features and technology it offered. We’ve reached out to TripAdvisor and will update here when we find out more.
