- After 7m downloads of its call-blocking Android app, Mr. Number gets acquired by WhitePages
Silicon Valley startup Mr. Number, makers of a call and text-blocking Android application with the same name, has been acquired by WhitePages after its app was downloaded from the Google Play Store more than 7 million times.
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. In August 2011, Mr. Number raised $3.5 million from VC firm Menlo Ventures. The company was founded by serial entrepreneur Jason Devitt and ex-Googler Mike Wells.
The purchase of the startup helps WhitePages expand its mobile offerings and provide users with a robust caller ID service.
The company asserts that Mr. Number will remain a standalone mobile app and consumer site with “potential synergies leveraged in future app development”.
WhitePages claims its family of mobile apps – including its Current Caller ID App – are used by more than 15 million users per month.
The news of the acquisition was reported first by Geekwire, which claims WhitePages is only buying Mr. Number’s technology and assets and not taking over its employees.
