- HTC One Google Edition will launch unlocked on Google Play for $599 on June 26th
Today at D11, Sundar Pichai senior vice president for Android, Chrome and Google Apps at Google announced a Google version of the HTC One that will feature a stock ‘Nexus’ like experience.
“Part of what we’re going to do is actively work with partners to make [the best customer experience] happen,” said Pichai. “At I/O, we announced the Galaxy S IV with the experience you see on Nexus devices, Google’s take on Android. That’s a small step in the right direction.”
Pichai then pulled out an HTC one running the stock Android Jelly Bean OS. He said that it would be available on Google Play from June 26th for $599. This is part of an ongoing strategy, says Pichai, that will exist alongside the Nexus program in an effort to allow people to get a more ‘Android’ experience, rather than a carrier or manufacturer customized version.
Pichai was careful to note that the Nexus program would likely continue to exist as it’s designed to push hardware first.
