- Path says an attack is sending spam to a “small number” of users, no data compromised
Path is currently experiencing some issues with its private social network. The company sent out several Tweets alerting users of the problem, saying that “a small number” of users received spam messages. However, it stresses that no personal data has been compromised.
From what we know, it appears that this particular attack is sending private messages to Path users from strangers or fake users. It would appear to be the app’s version of phishing. From the company’s Tweets today, the problem was brought to its attention by users.
This is perhaps the first time that Path has experienced a spam attack like this and it comes just a week after the company closed a $25 million funding round led by Indonesia’s Bakrie Global Group, which itself has sparked some controversy.
We’ve reached out to Path for more information and will update if we hear back.
