Last week, a Vice News report revealed that Canadian police had access to a master encryption key in its investigation that allowed it to intercept over 1 million messages sent using BlackBerry Messenger between 2010 and 2012. It wasn’t clear as how the key was obtained and whether BlackBerry handed it over to Canadian law enforcement to assist in a 2011 murder case involving a Montreal crime organization.
